''Prayer socks'' and ''Lilies''

For those of you who know my story you know WHY we chose Elizabeth. She has the same diagnosis as two of my children. With no medical interventions she will die very soon. Children born in America,UK, and Canada... they have a chance to  beat the terminal diagnosis Countries like where this sweet girl resides, she will be lucky to survive months in an institution and she will be transferred in September to an adult institution due to her age... She is 5. Her fate is a crib  I only have two pictures of my child and a description stating that the orphanage is begging for a family for this little girl. They have nothing to help her live longer, her muscles continue to die. she is very smart and very well developed for her age but she needs special care, rehabilitation, and good nutrition. This plea for a family was over a year and a half ago, we have no update on her condition but we can only imagine knowing the disease and what it can do to the privileged I know she is in desperate need.
I haven't told you about her namesake. Elizabeth is not her real name and it isn't what we are going to name her. But she needed an alias name to be listed. When I found her I was very new to the Reece's rainbow community, I didn't know anything about her namesake. There was a lady from NC who loved all the children, she was a huge advocate for them, and searched tirelessly for families for those with special needs. In a way you can say her life was devoted to helping children find families. She was legend for her ''prayer socks'' She would make socks by hand and would pray for a child over every single stitch.  Every stitch of every sock was filled with a strong embodiment of love. This woman would spend hours pouring out LOVE into the socks dedicated to children listed on RR, she would auctioned them off. She raised 1000's to help children build their grants.
For those who don't know about Reeces Rainbow.......what is this rainbow.... Basically it has became a society of love. It is made up of 1000's of people who truly care about the lives of children MOST they have never met. The orginization itself helps facilitators and agencies by listing the children in need of families, The RR community then advocates for the special needs orphans and raise grant funds in hopes the children will be adopted. This helps the future parents with the insanely high cost of the adoption. Sharing and blogging about the children really can help find a family and raise remaining funds for those who commit to adopt a child. I had never put serious thought into adoption until this past February. I clicked a simple link to Reece's Rainbow. It changed my life forever, I honestly had no idea these TERRIBLE things were happening to the  children, who will have no choice to EVER stop it. Having disabled children of my own I was crushed about this reality.

with ''Prayer socks'' in tow

Sadly this amazing lady with the famous ''pray socks'' lost her life to Cancer over a year ago. There is a wonderful lady Lu that dearly treasured her friend Elizabeth because she gave her some information that would soon save her daughters life, Elizabeth was an amazing person. During Elizabeth's last days here on earth she sent her dear friend a cd so she could continue on her legacy, a legacy that changes lives with something as simple as a sock. Lu works for Reece's rainbow. She is a highly valued team member. She was given the honor of giving the alias name to this beautiful girl I plan to adopt. Due to the passing of her friend who is deeply missed by many and the fancy lace frilled socks that the sweet orphan was wearing, she named her Elizabeth. Lu then became this sweet girls angel tree warrior and she raised 1000's and auctioned of some amazing socks in sweet Elizabeths honor.
I had never heard of the famous ''Prayer socks'' nor had I heard of this amazing advocate before my commitment to Elizabeth. But because of what happened the day I commit to adopt this sweet girl I will never forget her. Moments after my commitment and the announcement of such I received a message from Lu telling me all about her namesake, we hadn't talked much prior. But she told me about her name sake and that of all days I could of said yes to this child.... It was Elizabeth the namesakes Birthday. WOW....

 Oh, It gets better
I haven't announced what I'm naming Elizabeth yet but this past week I privately told Lu, and told her not to tell...... BUT I'm going to tell, I told her I would name her ''Lily'' because she is as delicate and beautiful as a flower. Now Lu still holds her sweet friend close, and totally thinks her friend is up in heaven orchestrating things. she instantly asks the namesakes best friend if lilies hold any signifigence  to to the namesake... the best friend replied YES, her dad grows lilies in his garden. They are his most prized possession.
This child is meant to be with us but the only thing that stands in the way is the fee's of her adoption. We are trying very hard but we still need almost 8000 to add her to our adoption.  If you would like help we could use donations to our Grant. We really appreciate everyone who has been a part of getting us this far.

''PRAYER SOCK'' GIVEAWAY

I am very honored to announce that Elizabeth's mother has donated one final pair of her daughters prayer socks to benefit the adoption of our sweet Lily. This pair of socks has 19,000 stitches, and let me remind you each stitch equals one prayer from this sweet warrior. When she passed away this pair of socks needed one last stitch to complete them. Her mom with great honor completed that stitch for her daughter's  ''prayer socks'' all her mother had to do to complete them was the final stitch closing the toes. We are doing a giveaway for the socks. You will get one entry for every $5 you donate to our adoption grant, every share of this blog post will also get you a free entry. Please leave your name in the comment section with the amount of entries you have earned.  We will announce the winner August 23rd.

  1. I found your site through Julia, and made a donation full of hope and prayers. I believe it gives me four chances at Elizabeth's Prayer Socks! I followed Elizabeth's journey and would be so very honoured to have a pair of her prayer socks. Wishing you much luck in your quest for the funds to bring home your children.

  2. I donated for a total of 5 chances. I knew about Elizabeth through Ginny Sheller's blog. She is someone that keeps popping up, her life left many wonderful ripples that will resonate for a long time. What a blessing to be able to own a pair of her socks. Thank you for the chance. I also wanted to say, that this little girl, Elizabeth, was on my mind and heart for so long as I looked through the waiting children on the Reece's Rainbow site. When I heard that she had a family I was so relieved and happy! She just needs care and love, and here you are!! How wonderful! I'm so honored to be able to "meet" you and say, thank you for caring for her when I can't and so many others cannot.
